Worst Company Ever

posted on february 26, 2003, tag: verizon

I just got off the phone with Verizon. That call was number 3,812 I think. I was told by the customer "service" rep that DSL is, in fact, not available for my apartment. It never was, and never will be. I'm 22,000+ feet away from the central office. Note that last time they ran this loop check I was 19,000+ feet away. And two other times I was around 15,000+ feet. Apparently someone has been moving my apartment around when I'm not there. That's the only way I can explain it. And the CSR had nothing more to offer as far as an explanation goes.

Long story short, he said definitively that I cannot get DSL service. This after the provisioning department called me this morning and told us we could, but it would take until the 6th of March to start. I found out during the phone call with customer service that the provisioning department has been billing me since February 14. So basically, they've has been lying to me and pushing back my start date so they could charge me for the service I wasn't getting. The CSR confirmed this.

I yelled at the guy for a while. Took out some of my frustrations. Called him a fucking moron, told him Verizon was the worst company I'd ever dealt with and everyone who worked there was a fucking stupid bitch, and then I cancelled every bit of the DSL and told him I better not see any charges. He gave me two confirmation numbers which I'm sure would be meaningless if I ever called back.

And so with that my DSL possibilities are over. Every other company providing DSL in my area uses Verizon's lines. No options there. TimeWarner cable has yet to lay cable for Internet service for my side of the block (yes, that's correct—across the street on our block they all have it). So I wait. For how long? Who knows. I am in dial-up hell and I'll be here for a long time I'm sure.

Mother fucking piece of shit. Honestly. That's what this is. To a person like me, this is one of the worst things that can happen. My daily life is completely affected. Everything I do I now cannot. It's horrible.

Help Me:
I'm asking anyone out there who can feel my pain to link my newly formed I Hate Verizon category with the word "Verizon," just like this: Verizon.

The URL is:
     http://www.maniacalrage.net/archives/catihate_verizon.php

I'm hoping this will spread the word about how terrible they are (any maybe put my site near the top of their Google result eventually), so that maybe a few people can be spared. Thanks.

Completely sucks. I would yell across the street at somebody and have a cable line strung over the street.

Your saga is so incredulous and rage-filling, I find myself angry. Are you fucking sure? Seriously? Are you kidding? Are you really really really sure? Notta? Zip? Please, you're kidding me. How?! Seriously?

Fucking fuck.

I really hope this catches on. We could make an 88x31 button and create a whole campaign! :)

It's not just DSL they have problems with. My mother-in-law's phone just plain stopped working the other day and the asswipe's in customer service keep transfering her around and not answering any questions. It's been going on for days now. I'm all for an anti-Verizon campain. Screw those worthless pricks.

I created a few at work today but forgot to bring them home. If you come up with some, please link them here and I will post about it.

Forget about DSL. Get a digital cable connection instead. It's faster and more reliable. There's no problem with being a ga-thousand feet away from the home office. Distance doesn't matter.

Garrett on 04/21/2003:

Jason, I think you missed out on the beginning of the story: I can't get digital cable either.

Another problem with these morons is not only the runaround about DSL service in the Linden Square area, but also a runaround about getting my savings bonds cancelled, because the bonds put me over my SSI limit once.

I've beed trying to get DLS for 3 years. I'm within 2 miles of the CO. The stupid web site to check for DSL is supposed to do some animated garbage while it's checking my phone number. It locks up every time and never came back with an answer.

As usual, I waste my time calling them only to hear they have no plans for DSL. Never mind the countless ADs from them advertising DSL that I get. Why don't they spend the advertising dollars by providing the service rather than advertising for a non-existant service.

Of course Verizon is my phone service provider. I get a whopping 28.8 dial-up speed because of the poor lines.

What about cable modem access you say? My cable company is Adelphia. The losers are in bankrupcy.

Verizon and Adelphia bought out companies locally that already provided good service. Now I'm a pawn in a big monopoly game.

In the 2004 election, if any candidate says anything negative about big business, he'll get my vote! Screw these big businesses and their buyouts! All you get is layoffs and poor service!!!

Political Pulpit on 02/07/2004:

The dirty secret about internet cable is that the service is already provisioned. What makes it "available" is when the cable company comes around and puts data filters on the lines to prevent non-subscribers from using it.

When I was using a cable modem, I was in an area that did not have broadband service. I was hitchhiking on my cable using a logon from a previous service across town. I had free service for almost two years before they came by to put the filters in. Then I promptly switched to a T-1 service and never looked back.

Just a though Garrett,

Why don't you strike a deal with someone across the street to share a wireless access point. If they pay for the cable service offer to give them a wireless card or something like that. In exchange they allow you to hook up a base station and connect to it from your house. The whole deal might be a little expensive (wireless base station, wireless cards, maybe an antenna) but if you really need it...

Garrett on 02/08/2004:

Thanks everyone, but this entry is very dated now... I have broadband service. See newer entries for details.
