I proudly present our second short film, Glass. This time around I wrote and directed and Shawn edited. This is based on a WeeklyDV theme ("glass," strangely enough), and we've submitted it to that site as well.

The idea came Saturday afternoon, while Shawn and I were brainstorming, trying to figure out what to do with the glass theme. I suddenly got the idea and immediately wrote out the script. Minutes later we were cleaning it up and we were set to shoot.

This was a particularly interesting film to shoot because it required shooting two films. We shot the "Antiques Roadshow" part first and then played it in the background of the actual film. It was more work but turned out well.

We're shooting another this Saturday, so more is on the horizon. It's great to be doing this again. Comments and feedback are welcome!

From this point on, for all the films we shoot, I'll be posting scripts. So if you're the type who is interested in such things, you can read the script from this film: Glass. I would suggest watching the film first, though, so you don't ruin it for yourself.

Very funny! Garrett, you make the best "surprised" face. It's so funny.

Great flick Garrett! I had a good laugh. I would have taken the Powerbook and Airport if I was him. Can't wait to see more.

I've been following the weeklydv for a while. In terms of execution and screenwriting, this one is up there. It's good stuff and has me pining for a PDX-10 I'm saving up for.

What are you guys shooting with?

Shawn on 07/15/2004:

We shot it with the Panasonic DVX100A in its 24fps mode.

Benjamin on 07/16/2004:

"Miniature chamber pots." Excellent.

Dustym on 07/16/2004:

Nice. I've read great things about that camera and it's 30fps cousin. Alot of people are out there looking for the holy grail film look, but it looks like you guys don't have that problem too much. Really good footage.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. We're really glad you liked it!

Malik on 07/22/2004:

I laughed audibly on the ending. What did you use to piece this together and what compression scheme did you use. It seems to be a relatively small file and excelent quality.

Garrett on 07/22/2004:

Malik—We used Final Cut Pro HD. The specific settings for the compression (for the larger version) were:

Video: MPEG-4, Medium quality, "Best" frame rate, keyframe every 96 frames (we shot in 24fps mode), limit data rate to 85 kbps.

Audio: MPEG-4 Audio, default settings.

We're still not entirely thrilled with the way this looks and continue to tweak the compression settings. I'm hoping to eventually find the perfect set. Until then, it varies from time to time.

Glad you liked the film!

Excelent movie, also.....great end.

Using Ikea tables is streching it a bit, but the general plot is solid.
