Short Film: "then, suddenly..."
posted on september 3, 2004, tag: filmmaking
Our new short film, "then, suddenly...", is finally ready. This film was written and directed by Shawn, and we edited it together. The film has a few new people in it, and doesn't take place in my apartment. The story started off as an idea for a WeeklyDV theme, but didn't have a chance to shoot it by the deadline. The good news is, we got to give this film attention uninhibited by a short deadline, and the result was worth the wait.
I'll be posting the script in a few hours. Comments and feedback are, of course, welcome. We hope you enjoy it.
Update: I've put the script online. You can read it now: "then, suddenly..." script. Watch the film first!

Special Features for the DVD:
alternate ending: the fruit leaves the window and goes into another! Mwahahaha!
I laughed more than once... good job.
Jesper on 09/03/2004:
Then, suddenly, your bandwidth ran out.
Jonathan on 09/03/2004:
Good one! I love the expressions on your faces. So when are you giving up the day job to become a filmmaker?
Benjamin on 09/03/2004:
I must say, that one easily tops the last two. Good job.
mudge on 09/03/2004:
That was brilliant. The best film yet and it made me laugh out loud several times. Great work!
mudge on 09/03/2004:
By the way, what software did you use to edit this? The intro text seems too crisp for iMovie.
Shawn on 09/03/2004:
Editing was done in Final Cut Pro. Garrett did the titles in Photoshop. Yes, the text generator in Final Cut (and I assume iMovie) is pretty poor. It always creates blurry results.
RedMonkey on 09/03/2004:
BRILLIANT! I am officially hooked on your movies now and you inspire me to create something too!
Dang... nice!

Lashlar on 09/05/2004:
Oh, my. I almost destroyed my laptop with a spray of tea; I was laughing so hard.
I'm looking forward to the next one, too.
Bobby Andersen on 09/05/2004:
That was absolutely great! Laugh out loud funny!
As I said after your first movie came out, I'd like to see a horror flick. :)
RMF on 09/06/2004:
I love it.
Particularly that this group of men have started an apparent Harry Potter book club! That alone is hilarious to me.
One point. How did the window get closed? I mean after the fruit flew through the window?
All in all... freakin' brilliant.
Ran on 09/09/2004:
Very well done. I laughed a lot. Are you planning a sequel?
Tim Uruski on 09/09/2004:
Great short! I'm actually loving the fact that you post these. They're like little extra treats on an already excellent and entertaining and informative blog!
My favourite part was the reaction to being told there was a fruit on the couch. slam
AkaXakA on 09/09/2004:
Great great great!
I really enjoyed it, the feel of your movies is nice and homegrown, but still quite slick. I like that.
Sean Park on 09/10/2004:
Great job as usual! It kinda reminded me of Mid-Night Shyamalan's "the Village." It's unclear why fruits are forbidden.
Ben on 09/10/2004:
Impressive. Good timing, good dialog, good cuts. Post a page talking about your process + hardware.
indieb0i on 09/14/2004:
Awesome! Brilliant! Two enthusiastic thumbs up! Thankfully I finished my coffee before watching it so my desk isn't covered in the ensuing spray. Oh, and bonus points for someone wearing an Underworld t-shirt. I have one of the other designs from that tour.
