What Happened to You, Maniaca?

posted on september 13, 2005, tags: announcement, site

I've wanted to write here so many times in the past month or so, but I just haven't had it in me. It's not that I don't like writing—in fact, the new project I'm getting ready to launch is all about writing. I love writing. The problem is, I'm finding I have a lot less to say to the audience this site has. Way, way, way back in the day, this site was a place where I wrote semi-offensive, often funny things. Stories, short plays, rants, et cetera (hell, even poems), but over time, this place turned into mostly a site about technology and the internet. I love those things too, but so do forty bajillion other people who all have weblogs, 99% of whom are better writers.

Therefore, I find myself in a bit of a pickle.

I love this site, and I don't want to end it. But, at the same time, I don't think I can successfully run it the way it has been for the last few years. I just don't have enough compelling stuff to say about technology any more. It's mostly "I love this," and "I hate that." You don't really need to hear that. Don't get me wrong—no matter how I try to avoid it, technology and the web remain endlessly interesting to me and I will always sneak in commentary on the subject here and there.

But, for the most part, I think this site is going to go back to its roots a little. With the launch of my new project, and with a return to more fiction, this place will change. I hope you'll all stick around.

Me, I don't blog. I can never find a way to express my enthusiasm over a new coding technique or whatever. I'm not terribly good at puttings things down in a blog-type way, but I do like reading about others' experiences.

I gotta say it is refreshing to some accross a weblog you would normally associate with techy-type stuff and see that it is discussing the politics of comics. ie. plasticbag.

It is boring to read the same thing across multiple sites (iPod nano anyone?), so I say just write what you want to write about, I'll certainly be dropping by as usual.

Isn't it content that counts on the 9rules network anyway?

Cheers;
Poncho

heloooo garrett pet.

this is the first time i've posted here. i have to say that this site (when i first saw it in it's old incarnation) was what inspired me to handcode my own site. i took a lot of inspiration from it. i think i even mentioned it in my about section (although my site is not finished and i'm lazy, haha).

i'm sorry you're going to wrap it up as it is, but hey if your bored with it then all good. i certainly know how you probably feel.

anyhooo good luck with your new ruby project. i'm suspecting it's a script-writing tool.

good luck!

I've been following your blog since the beginning of the year, and I must say that your blog has inspired me to take a dip into at coding again. I've been so out of the game that I've lost touch with the webstandards (even CSS!).

I particularly loved your previous design - the photo header with mouse-over description of the photo and all that jazz. I can say I'm really hopeless as I was trying to figure out how you did it and failed miserably. Thus, I'm making an undignified request if you could share your previous design which I would like to incoporate into my blog, with credits to you of course.

Though you have not been writing much, I still look forward to your posts, particularly your tech posts (yes, geeky me). Love the photos that you take too (which is the reason why I dig your photo header so much).

I'll be hanging around here for a long while, so keep 'em coming.

Hey man.

Hope you keep your site up. I've been following for quite a while and although I liked your old look better, you're fun to read. Remember, few blogs are still blogs.

Later,
B.
